The Story
A lifelong artist and conservationist, Charley Harper expressed his deep appreciation of nature through his design, forming the innovative āminimal realismā that would become his artistic hallmark. From his childhood days exploring the Appalachian foothills in rural West Virginia, Harper (American, 1922ā2007) closely observed the beauty, habits, and natural habitats of birds and other wildlife. With his clever paintings, groundbreaking illustrations for Ford Times magazine, and his posters for the National Park Service and various wildlife organizations, Harperās work has inspired an entire generation of artists and designers.
